"Box 528 must equal the sum of Box 525 and Box 527" is displayed when trying to file a CT600

An issue arose after HMRC did not update the schemas on the Gateway in a timely fashion. This meant that the TaxCalc application was trying to send details that the HMRC system was not yet expecting and we had to wait for them to turn this on. A software update has been released to resolve this issue. Please ensure that you are running version 5.4.094 before trying to file any further CT600 returns. For more information on how to update your application, please see our Knowledge Base article for How do I check if my TaxCalc is up to date?

Alternatively, if you wish to not update, please see the below steps to manually refresh the CT600 return.

  1. Open the affected Tax Return in SimpleStep mode:
  2. Go to CT600 Core > Trade and professional Income > Tax adjust profit/(loss) worksheet – disallowable expenditure.
  3. Delete the figure in box Profit/(loss) on ordinary activities before taxation
  4. click out of the box (it should go red)
  5. Re-enter the figure.
  6. go to Calculation of tax outstanding or overpaid
  7. check box 528 has now got an entry
    1. If yes, go to next step
    2. If no, please insert a figure in box 495 click out of the box and then take the figure back out again.
  8. Go to check and finish > file online and select re-submit at the bottom of the error message page.

Following these steps should ensure a successful submission.
